When we describe tax rules, we rely on official publications such as IRS Publication 527 and Publication 925 and name them in the text. When a figure depends on your location or changes often, such as occupancy taxes and platform fees, we do not state a number. Instead we tell you where to look, such as the platform's current fee page or your local tax office. Numbers in worked examples are illustrations, and we say so.
The formulas used by the calculator are documented on the methodology page. Worked examples in the guides use the same arithmetic as the calculator, so you can reproduce each line by hand. We test the calculator against fixed example cases before changes are published.
We have no active affiliate partnerships. We do not receive payment or commissions from any booking platform, property manager, software vendor or other company in exchange for mentions or links. Names of companies appear only to explain how short-term rentals work. If this changes, we will say so clearly on this page and mark any affected links.
We may show advertising through a third-party network in the future. Advertisements are separate from editorial content, and advertisers do not review or approve what we write. See the privacy policy for how advertising may affect data collection.
The site is independent and is not affiliated with Airbnb, Inc. or any other platform. We do not allow any company to pay for a more favourable description.
